Come join the fun! Spring 2018 Classes
Piece Works Quilt Shop spring classes are now available from Tony Jacobson, and we hope you will join us for these fun learning experiences. Contact Tony today to save your spot in class at 515-493-1121, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
February 17: "Tricolor Stars"
You need to select 10 coordinating fabrics to make this quilt. You will be creating star blocks using the “flippy” corner method so that you do not have to cut triangles or odd shape pieces. You will be cutting and working with squares and rectangles to make these blocks. Pieced sashing gives this quilt a little extra interest. Finished quilt size is 58” x 72”. This quilt can be done by a confident beginner. Class costs $25 and is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
February 18: "Collage Quilts"
If you have been intrigued by Laura Heine’s collage quilts but weren’t quite sure how they are done, then this is the class for you. Joyce will be teaching Laura’s fish pattern—which is placemat sized—as a beginning class to the collage technique. She will also show how you take what you learn in class and expand on it to create some of Laura’s other larger wonderful designs. Class costs $40 (includes the pattern) and is from noon to 4:00 p.m.
March 10: "Boxed In"
This is another good quilt for a confident beginner. The design of the quilt is a variation of a Log Cabin pattern and is created totally from squares and rectangles. It’s a great way to use up bright scraps. Some size options are available if you want to do something larger than a throw-size quilt. The sample shown was made using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Class costs $25 and is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
April 7, 2018: "Sprinkles"
This is a great beginner project. You need to know how to operate your sewing machine, but will not need prior knowledge of quilting in order to take this class. If you been looking for a good beginner class, this is the one for you. Just one cautionary note: you might just fall in love with quilting and start hanging out in quilt shops buying fabric. Class costs $25 and is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
April 21, 2018: "Fractured"
This quilt looks much more difficult than it is. This is a design where we let the fabric do the work. Using 5 different uneven stripes and the 8-at-a-time Triangle-Square method makes this a doable quilt for the confident beginner. Everyone will think that you did a lot more work to create this quilt than you actually did. Class costs $25 and is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
May 5, 2018: "Mystery Class 2"
Not only will it be Cinco De Mayo but we will be hosting a second Mystery Quilt Class. We had so much fun with the first one that we decided to do it again. This time you will provide your own fabric for a throw-size quilt. But you won’t know what the final quilt will look like until you come to class. We will also be helping Tony celebrate 35 years as a cancer survivor. Who knows what kind of surprises we might come up with. Class costs $25 and is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
